Feed the lofty wildlife with a visit to the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi. This non-profit organisation was originally opened in order to protect the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe that is found only on the plains of East Africa. Since its inception the programme has been highly successful and has re-introduced pairs of breeding Rothschild’s giraffe into various national parks in Kenya. The centre also offers free environmental education to young Kenyans and promotes conservation efforts of endangered species in the country. While on your visit you will have the opportunity of getting close to a giraffe or two as well as feed them and watch as they delicately use their long tongues to take the food from your hand. There are also a few warthog that roam freely amongst the giraffes and a gift shop for visitors to enjoy. Unique and exhilarating, this visit will get you as close as you possibly can to giraffe in Kenya. |

Game drive at the Nairobi National Park. Your safari will take place in your tour vehicle as you uncover the only national park in the world to be located in a city. Here, wide open plains have the unusual backdrop of city skyscrapers; however, the wildlife in the park is no less impressive than in the wilderness. The grassy savannahs and acacia bushlands shelter a wide variety of animals including the endangered black rhino, buffalo, giraffe, cheetah, leopard and lion as well as over 400 recorded bird species. Migrating herbivores gather in the park during the dry season due to a number of man-made dams that provide water when other sources have dried up, and the region is also one of Kenya's most successful rhino sanctuaries. The western uplands of the park have highland dry forest while there is a riverine forest along the permanent river in the south of the park. Park entrance fee included. |

Visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi and ‘adopt’ a baby elephant. There are unfortunately still many elephants that are lost to poaching in Kenya, leaving behind orphaned babies that cannot survive without their mothers. The Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage takes in these vulnerable baby elephants where they are hand-reared on infant formula until they are old enough to look after themselves. They are then moved to special enclosures in the Tsavo East National Park where they are slowly re-introduced to wild elephants. While on your visit to the orphanage you can watch the handlers feed the baby elephants with giant bottles of formula and be amused by the slightly older elephants that have learned to hold their own bottles. If you are lucky you may get a nuzzle or two from one of the little ones as they happily munch on acacia trees and play in the sand with their trunks. The orphanage is open to the public daily from 11h00 to 12h00. |

Lace up your boots and prepare to trek up Mount Longonot. This imposing stratovolcano is located in the centre of the Great Rift Valley and forms part of the protected Mount Longonot National Park. The mountain was last known to have erupted in the 1860s and today is home to various species of wildlife such as zebra, giraffe, buffalo and hartebeest. Your guided trek will be a 9-kilometre round trip, taking about two hours to hike to the rim of the crater and a further two hours hiking along the crater rim to reach the summit. From the peak you will have fabulous views of the giant Oloongonot Crater and nearby Lake Naivasha, while the crater floor is lined with a small forest of trees and dotted with little fumaroles, or steam vents, that attest to ongoing volcanic activity. |
