Marvel at the views of Cape Town from the aerial cableway and plateau on Table Mountain. The Mother City is synonymous with the striking mountain that is flanked by Devil’s Peak to the east and Lion’s Head to the west, providing a dramatic backdrop to the city. Table Mountain holds an unusually rich biodiversity and forms part of the Cape Floral Region, a protected area. Rock hyrax, or dassie as they are locally known, are often seen scampering through the scrub and the views from the summit over Table Bay, Robben Island and the Atlantic seaboard are breathtaking. The cable cars depart every 10 to 15 minutes and rotate 360 degrees as they travel up to 302 metres above sea level, giving passengers panoramic views over the city. Five minutes is all it takes to reach the summit and once there you can marvel at the views, have a bite to eat in the restaurant or do a bit of shopping at the extensive curio shop. The cableway only operates when weather permits. |

You may choose to walk or ride your lofty steed as you amble along pathways through the bush en route to their paddocks and their evening meal. Explore Soweto on two wheels with a four-hour bicycle tour. Opt for an unusual and memorable township tour that can be experienced on the ground instead of through the sealed windows of an air-conditioned tour bus, as you pedal the streets to the beat of the resident’s kwaito music and smell the street food sold from sidewalk vendors. Soweto is a vibrant and famous South African township near Johannesburg that was once the home of Nelson Mandela and many other figures synonymous with the fight against apartheid. Attractions are plentiful and varied and, depending on which route you take, include Nelson Mandela’s former house, the Hector Pieterson Memorial, a now reformed old apartheid worker’s hostel, the scene of the 1976 Soweto uprisings, shebeens and much more. Meet the colourful community of Meadowlands and stop to sample a local brew or try a treat from a street eatery as you enjoy this unique adventure. |
