Special treats to come across include herds of young elephants playing in the channels as the matriarch stands close by, or raptors circling a sea of blue sky as they eye the ground for their next meal. Plains game such as zebra, kudu, tsessebe, buffalo and giraffe are also frisky at dawn, and herds may be seen galloping across the open plains. Keep your eyes open for handsome roan and sable antelope that are present in the delta but more elusive, as well as lazy crocodiles, well camouflaged on the muddy river banks.

| - | Arrival at Tau Pan. Renowned for its pristine wilderness, this lodge is one of only two located within the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The reserve is one of the largest in the world and is home to vast numbers of wildlife such as springbok, gemsbok and migrating zebra and wildebeest that congregate in their thousands on the pans after the rains. This plethora of plains game in turn attracts predators, including cheetah, Kalahari black-maned lion and black-backed jackals. The nine chalets overlook a permanent watering hole and the main area at the lodge is completely open on one side, offering stunning 180 degree vistas of the landscape. The camp is 100% solar powered and the rooms are environmentally adapted to maintain a comfortable temperature all year round.
